This event closed out the Eastern Cape swing on the national Order of Merit calendar. Players from across South Africa showed up to take on tight lines off the tees and tricky, grainy greens. Abrie Ackerman and Cameron Johnson set the early pace, carding a level round of 71 apiece at the end of day one, while the Southern Cape Golf Union star – Ivan Williams, was lurking one back.
Remarkable, considering Williams played the course the last time in 2006.
On day two Ivan gained on the leaders and had to make birdie on 18 to fend off Cameron Johnson, who made a very lengthy birdie putt of his own.
